Scio High senior Ashton Phillips was named the 3A softball player of the year for the second straight season after helping lead the Loggers to the state semifinals.
Ashton, an infielder and Oregon State signee, was joined on the first team by senior outfielder Rheanna McDaniel, junior infielder Kasidee Parazoo and senior infielder Brooke Young.
Senior pitcher Kelsey Pollard was a second-team pick along with junior catcher Olivia Zeiher.
Senior first baseman Makenna Cooper and senior outfielder Mckenzie Reger received honorable mention.
Harrisburg senior pitcher Haley Brooks was a second-team pick, while sophomore Cynthia Downs received honorable mention. Jefferson senior outfielder Amanda Bruce also received honorable mention.
Dayton’s Anika Heidt was the pitcher of the year and Rob Umbenhower the coach of the year.
West Albany senior catcher Hailey Davis was a 6A second-team all-state pick and freshman Ellie Babbitt a third-team pick.
Cassie Cosler (senior infielder), Mahayla Gamble (junior pitcher) and Presley Jantzi (freshman utility) received honorable mention.
Oregon All-Star Series rosters announced
West Albany’s Curtis Zamora and Jayce Lien along with Crescent Valley’s Briley Knight and Lebanon’s Kevin Crowell will compete for the South team in the Oregon All-Star Series, which is set for June 23-24 at Oregon State’s Goss Stadium.
The first game of the three-game series is slated for 7 p.m. June 23 with a doubleheader beginning at 11 a.m. on June 24.
OACA series set
The 46th annual OACA All Star Basketball Series will take plat June 15-16 at Northwest Christian University (Eugene) on the 15th and at Warner Pacific College on the 16th.
The All Star Series is divided into two separate divisions.
The 2A-3A-4A high schools are divided into geographical regions (by league) and those four teams will play a two-day tournament. Philomath’s Nolan Jackson will play for the West.
The 5A-6A schools are divided by State and Metro (the original division of schools back when the series first began). These two teams play one game each day.
South Albany’s Jake Costello will play for the state team.
The All Stars are selected by coaches based upon their high school careers. Coaches are selected based upon their 2017-18 season.
Admission is $5 for adults, $4 for students and $3 for seniors.
