RENO, Nev. — Six Oregon State wrestlers placed at Sunday’s Reno Tournament of Champions, including a second-place finish from freshman heavyweight Amarveer Dhesi.
OSU entered 29 wrestlers into the tournament but only six wrestled for the Beavers with the other 23 wrestling unattached.
Joey Palmer, unattached, placed fourth at 125. Palmer collected three straight wins against Pac-12 opponents to start off the tournament, but fell to North Carolina’s Nathan Kraisser in the match for third place.
Abraham Rodriguez, also wrestling unattached, placed fifth at 157. Rodriguez tallied a four-match winning streak leading him to the match for fifth, where he defeated teammate Jordan Henrickson (unattached) 4-3. Henrickson took home sixth-place after four wins out of the gate.
Joe Latham placed fifth at 174 after collecting six wins throughout the tournament, including a three-match win streak. Austin Morehead, wrestling unattached, placed fifth at 184. Morehead tallied five wins, including an 11-4 major decision on the fifth-place match.
Dhesi rounded it out for the Beavers and placed second at 285. After four straight wins, Dhesi wrestled for the championship where he lost 5-3 to Ohio’s Jeremy Johnson.
