LAS VEGAS — A took a while, but the Oregon State offense clicked into high gear late on Sunday, and thanks to a three-run seventh inning, the Beavers left Las Vegas with a 10-7 nonconference softball win over UNLV on Sunday.
The Beavers (16-30) scored twice in the first for a quick lead, then scored their eight runs over the last three innings to rally for the win.
The late surge was highlighted by a three-run sixth-inning home run from junior CJ Chirichigno. She finished the game 5 for 5, setting a new school record for hits in a game. She doubled and had five RBIs.
OSU recorded 15 hits, its best total this season. Ya Garcia ended the game 3 for 5 with two doubles, three runs scored and one RBI. Dani Gilmore tied a school record with four runs scored, and moved into a tie with Kelly Peterson for second on Oregon State’s career walks list as she had two on the afternoon to give her 96 in her career.
Kori Nishitomi went 2 for 5 with a run, recording her 20th multi-hit game of the season. Kiki Pepi went 2 for 4 with one RBI, while Alexis Gonzalez finished with a hit and two RBIs.
After getting out to the 2-0 lead, OSU watched at UNLV scored three in the third to take the lead.
UNLV (23-28) scored a run in the fourth before OSU tied it at 5-all with two in the top of the fifth. UNLV answered with two in the bottom half before Chirichigno’s three-run homer put OSU up 7-6.
Once again, UNLV was able to answer with a single run to tie the game at 7-7.
With two outs in the seventh, Nishitomi and Garcia came through with back-to-back doubles to give the Beavers the lead. Oregon State then added some insurance, as Gilmore walked before Gonzalez singled to bring both runners home.
The Beavers return to action with a three-game Pac-12 series at Stanford beginning on Thursday.
