OSU men's basketball: Beavers receive verbals from three top players

Family ties paid off in a big way Tuesday for the Oregon State men’s basketball team.

Head coach Wayne Tinkle, hired in May, got verbal commitments from his son Tres and Stephen Thompson Jr., the son of OSU assistant Stephen Thompson.

The Beavers also got a commitment from Derrick Bruce, a three-star 6-foot-3 point guard from Delray Beach, Florida.

That gives OSU four commitments for its 2015 recruiting class. Drew Eubanks, a three-star, 6-10 post from Reynolds High in Troutdale, committed to the Beavers last week. Eubanks is also a baseball standout and expected to play both sports at Oregon State.

All four commits visited the OSU campus this past weekend.

Thompson Jr. is a 6-4 shooting guard from Torrance, California, near Los Angeles. Tres Tinkle is a 6-7 small forward from Missoula, Montana, where he will finish his high school career at Hellgate.

Evan Daniels, a basketball recruiting analyst for Scout.com, reported on Twitter on Tuesday that Oregon State has the No. 9 recruiting class in the country, according to his service, with the recent commitments.

The early signing period for this year’s high school seniors is Nov. 12-19.

The Beavers open the 2014-15 season Nov. 7 with a home exhibition against Western Oregon. They begin the regular season Nov. 14 at home against Rice.
