The city of Lebanon hasn't had a contested race for any elected position for any political office for a few years, but this year is different. There are three people running for mayor, and one contested city council seat.
City council president Bob Elliott has filed to make a push to unseat incumbent Mayor Paul Aziz, and Lebanon political newcomer Forest Bosley has also filed for the seat.
If Elliott wins the mayorship, his city council seat would be vacated, and the council would have to appoint someone from Ward III to fill that seat. If Elliott loses, he will remain as a Ward III city councilor for the next two years.
The push by Elliott was a surprise to us, but what we found even more surprising was the candidacy of former Lebanon City Manager John Hitt who filed city councilor Ward III. If Hitt wins, it would unseat incumbent Jason Bolen. Hitt retired from the city manager position in 2013.
We won't yet weigh in on how we feel about these developments, we'll wait until the ballots are closer to coming in the mail before we do that. However, if you have an opinion on the matter feel free to drop us line by email to Matt.DeBow@lee.net or snail mail at 90 E. Grant St.

Welcome to Lebanon class of 2020
In other news, COMP-Northwest hosted its sixth annual white coat and convocation ceremony last weekend, and as always the community of Lebanon embraces having the students in town.
We look forward to seeing the new class of students around town volunteering at events, or relaxing elsewhere when they get a minute to get away from the books.
