William “Bill” Mason Moon, 88, a resident of the Forest Grove community passed away on Thursday morning, March 22, 2018 at his home.
Bill was born on July 23, 1929 in Corcoran, California. He was one of four children born to Elwood and Dorothy (Wiant) Moon. He was raised in Tracy, California and attended Tracy High School, graduating with the Class of '47.
He was drafted into the US Army in 1951 and served his country until 1953 when he was honorably discharged as a Staff SGT.
In 1950, he was united in marriage to Lucille Prothe in Corvallis. They made their home here and had two children; Deborah and Barbara, but later divorced in 1967.
In the years to follow, Bill met Patricia Shumway. The two married in 1976 in Corvallis. They remained in Corvallis until 1999, re-locating to Albany and again in 2015, when they moved to McMinnville, Oregon. Shortly thereafter, Patricia passed away on November 15, 2016. In 2017, Bill move to Forest Grove to be closer to his children.
Bill was an owner-operator of the Electric Lunch in Corvallis for several years. In addition to this, he managed, “The Big O” in Corvallis. Later, he drove a truck for Coca-Cola distributing.
Bill retired at age 62. However, he continued to overlook maintenance management for local apartments.
Bill, “Bull Moose,” was a wonderful gardener, a cat lover and a great handyman. He was a great cook who enjoyed traveling, reading and dancing. He also liked collecting Coca-Cola memorabilia, playing pinochle and riding the unicycle. He was much loved by his family and he will missed
He is preceded in death by his loving wife, Patricia Moon; his parents, Elwood and Dorothy Moon; two siblings, Clell and Sue Moon; and step-daughter, Kerry Keilty.
He is survived by his sister, Patty Sherer of Liberty, Indiana; his children and their spouses, Deborah and John Knapp of Gaston, Barbara and David Tree of Seattle; step-children, Lisa Anglim of Tualatin, Oregon and Nicki Gilray of Beaverton; Oregon as well as seven grandchildren.
Memorial Services will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, April 28, 2018 at Cornerstone Baptist Church; 200 S. 16th Ave in Cornelius, Oregon.
