November 2, 1940 — January 18, 2019

Joyce J. Roberts, 78, of Dallas, formerly of Corvallis, died January 18 at Salem Hospital.

She was born November 2, 1940 in Unionville, Missouri, to parents Keith and Cecilia Cullum. She graduated from Chino High School in 1959, and on Halloween of that year in Chino, she married Larry L. Roberts, and they enjoyed many fun-filled anniversaries.

They soon moved to Dugway Proving Grounds in Utah where Larry was stationed in the Army.

Their first child, Larry Dean Roberts, was born on November 28, 1960.

After leaving the service, they moved back to Chino, California and later to Pomona, California, where their second child, Deon Marie Roberts, now Chapman, was born on February 6, 1967.

Joyce loved to work with children so she worked for five years as a teacher’s aide at Westmont Elementary in the Pomona School District.

In 1979, the family moved to Oregon, settling in Corvallis where she worked as a cook at the Western View Middle School main kitchen, in the Corvallis school District 509J, for 24 years.

She love to cook, especially for her family and friends. She also enjoyed crocheting, knitting, camping and playing cards. She was a Red Hatter, and love to go to the casino.

One of her favorite things to do with her grandson, Joshua Matthew Chapman, was to eat out at a local restaurant, dessert first then the meal and dessert again.

In 2015, she moved to Dallas, Oregon to enjoy retirement with her husband.

They enjoyed many trips to the coast in their motor home, and camping adventures with family and friends. Everyone she met, she treated like family. Joyce never knew a stranger. She loved her family with all of her heart. Her kindness, wonderful cooking, great love for family and friends will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

Joyce was preceded in death by her brother, John; and a niece, Tracy.

She is survived by her husband of 59 years, Larry Lou Roberts; son, Larry Dean Roberts; daughter, Deon Marie Chapman; grandson, Joshua Matthew Chapman; son-in-law, Matthew Currin Chapman; sister, Janice J Fitzgerald; brothers, Kenny J Cullum and Dean Lee Cullum; and 11 nieces and nephews.

Joyce was a breast cancer survivor in 2010. Memorial donations may be made to Breast Cancer Research or Wounded Warriors.
