Darlene N. Lowry, 84, passed away Tuesday, February 6, at Quail Run in Albany.
Darlene was born in Sand Point, Idaho on October 17, 1933, to Jay and Zela Peacock.
Her family later moved to Springfield, Oregon. Darlene graduated from the University of Oregon with a degree in Geology. After graduating, she worked in South Dakota for the United States Atomic Energy Commission.
On April 18, 1957, she married Bob Lowry, whom she had met at a church function while attending college. They lived in California for a few years before settling down in Corvallis in December of 1961.
Darlene was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She always put her family first.
She was an excellent baker, making homemade desserts every day. She was also a skilled seamstress making all the clothes for her children and herself. She made everything from formal gowns for Barbie dolls to her daughter’s wedding dress.
Darlene loved gardening, hiking, rock hounding, camping and going to the coast. She was a Sunday school teacher for many years and also did volunteer work.
Darlene is survived by her daughters, Karen Eckhart of Scio, and Cathy Morse of Springfield, four granddaughters, two great-grandchildren, and her sister Marilyn Mann of Scio.
She was preceded in death by her husband of sixty years, Bob Lowry, her daughter Janette Gainey, and her brother Norman Peacock.
A memorial service will be held at Fisher Funeral Home at 2 p.m. Saturday, February 17, 2018.
