While Build Lebanon Trails often hosts guided hiking tours, BLT debuted its first guided boat tour at Cheadle Lake on a recent foggy Saturday morning.
Boaters rented kayaks and canoes donated to BLT by Peak Sports. The tour was led by BLT co-founder Jim Ruef. There are signs posted on anchors that were only reachable by boat.
The event, held March 10, coincided with the debut of BLT's March of the Munchkins, where kids dressed in costumes or uniforms before hiking along the Cheadle Lake paved trail. Children under 18 who dressed up received a BLT token and a copy of the group's "Lebanon Explorer’s Guide." Those goodies were handed out by Lebanon's Strawberry Festival Princesses.
Sherry Liest toured the lake with 6-year-old Alani Byers. When Alani was asked if she was having fun, she pretended to be a snail hibernating on the water.
BLT member Michael Mattingly heard about the free rentals and decided it was a great way to spend a Saturday morning. He brought along his two daughters, Evelyn, 8, and Kaylee, 6.
Knowing he'd have to paddle with only the help of his two young daughters, he enlisted his friend Marcus Wong.
Evelyn and Kaylee agreed that the water trail tour was "awesome" but a bit strenuous to paddle.
