Mid-Valley punched its ticket to the American Legion baseball AAA state tournament on July 22 with a 10-inning, 14-10 victory over Salem Withnell at West Albany High.

The Southpaws (27-11), who defeated the Dodgers 15-7 on July 21, swept the best-of-three super regional.

“This is a testament to how they’ve battled this entire season,” Mid-Valley coach Troy Babbitt said.

Salem (24-17) led 5-1 in the sixth before the Southpaws came back to force extra innings.

After going 4 for 5 in Game 1, Dylan Williams had four more hits for the Southpaws. Cody Johnson launched a big two-run home run to help spark the offense.

“I have to give my kids credit,” Babbitt said. “They don’t quit and they just chipped away.”

Mid-Valley, which is 21-3 in its last 24 games dating back to June 24, will open the eight-team state tournament against the Medford Mustangs at 1 p.m. on July 26 at Kiger Stadium in Klamath Falls.
