Justine Feist accomplished her goal Saturday at the Harrier Classic at Bryant Park in Albany.

The Corvallis High senior placed second in the varsity girls race with a time of 18 minutes, 37 seconds. This cut 18 seconds from her personal best of 18:55, set at last year’s Mid-Willamette Conference district meet.

“I just wanted to break my PR,” Feist said.

Even better, Feist bested all competitors she may face at the upcoming district and state meets. The winner of the varsity girls race, Alissa Pudlitzke, hails from Camas, Washington.

“This course has always been fast, not because it’s short. It’s a lot of competition at the right time of the season,” Feist said.

As a team, the Spartans finished second behind Camas. The Crescent Valley girls were sixth and Lebanon placed seventh.

McKenna Henke paced the Raiders, placing fifth in 18:54. Sarah Kenyon had Lebanon’s top time of 20:15, placing 24th.

South Albany’s Caitlyn Rowe was 14th in 19:46.

On the boys side, Crescent Valley senior Justice Lamer set a new PR with a time of 15:37, placing second behind West Salem’s Ahmed Muhumed (15:35).

“That’s almost 30 seconds lower just this year,” Lamer said.

As with Feist and Pudlitzke, Lamer and Muhumed will not face each other at state since the Titans are a 6A school.

Lebanon’s Marcus Corbett was 18th in 16:36, and Gabe Shoenfeld of CHS was 24th in 16:49.

This was the 11th edition of the Harrier Classic, which was hosted by South Albany High School.

Rebels coach Chris Van Cauteran said there were about 1,700 total race entries for the event, which included six high school races and a middle school/open race.

“This is a very good year for us,” Van Cauteran said, adding that it was great to see teams such as Camas High and Union High come from southwest Washington to boost the invitational’s level of competition even higher.

Van Cauteran also thanked the Albany Parks and Recreation Department for helping make the event possible.

“We could not do it without them. The park was race-ready,” Van Cauteran said.
