November Sunflower 11-12-17

The National Weather Service says Monday could be a wet and windy day for the mid-valley, with winds gusting to 40 mph,

In a special weather statement issued Sunday morning, forecasters said strong low pressure developing offshore will pass close to the Pacific Northwest coast Monday. But forecasters noted that, while strong winds are expected along the coast, there is still some uncertainty in the track of the low pressure system and how far inland strong winds will develop.

Currently, forecasters said, the low pressure center is expected to move into Vancouver Island, keeping the strongest winds out of the inland valleys of northwest Oregon and southwest Washington. With this forecast track, the Willamette Valley and Interstate 5 corridor in southwest Washington would likely experience south wind gusts of 30 to 40 mph Monday. With the ground becoming soggy from recent rain and leaves still on many trees, winds of this magnitude could cause some minor issues such as downed tree branches isolated power disruptions.

But forecasters noted that some models suggest the low may pass closer and stronger than currently expected. If this occurs, south winds would likely be stronger, creating more concern for potential damage and more widespread power disruptions.
