Motorcycle crash

A Willamina man was killed in a motorcycle crash near Sweet Home on Tuesday when he crossed over the center line and struck the front of a pickup. 

The Oregon State Police has released the name of a Willamina man who died Tuesday afternoon in a motor vehicle crash on Highway 20 near Sweet Home.

Robert DeLong was 74.

Investigation revealed that DeLong was riding a green 2002 Harley Davidson motorcycle and traveling east on Highway 20 east of Quartzville Road.

The motorcycle was rounding a right-hand curve, crossed the center line and struck the front of a white Toyota Tacoma pickup headed westbound, according to a news release.

Public safety workers were dispatched to the scene at about 2:05 p.m.

DeLong was wearing a helmet, but was pronounced deceased on the scene by emergency medical personnel.

The operator of the pickup, Kevin Schaffer, 27, of Santa Ana, California, was not injured.

State police troopers were assisted at the scene by the Sweet Home Fire Department, the Oregon Department of Transportation and the Sweet Home Chapel.

The investigation into the crash is continuing.
