Mel L. Walters Sr., 75, of Lebanon passed away at his home on Saturday, March 18, 2017.
Mel was born Aug. 24, 1941, in Wheeling, West Virginia, the son of Richard and Pauline (Shobe) Walters. In the 1950s, he moved with his family from West Virginia to California. He married Emily J. Romero in Redlands, California, on June 5, 1960. In 1976, Mel and Emily moved their family to Lebanon where they have resided since.
For Mel, family was always first, friends were a close second and working on his home was his third. He loved bragging about his children, gloating over his grandchildren and playing with his great-grandchildren as well as shooting hoops with his beloved godson. He took great pride that he was a man of his word, with a strong work ethic and loyalty to his friends and employer.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Richard and Pauline Walters.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Emily of Lebanon; children Melvin L. Walters Jr. (Rhonda) of Bend, Tina Marie Walters (Dale) of Albany and Christie Lynn Willis and husband Brian of Lebanon, Armando Rodriguez of Huntington Beach, California, and Theresa Langell of Salt Lake City, Utah; brothers Richard and wife Kathy Walters of Lebanon, and Ronald Walters of Beaumont, California; sister Delores Wren of Kokomo, Indiana; eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A viewing will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday, March 30, at the Huston-Jost Funeral Home. A funeral service will be at 3:30 p.m. Friday, March 31, at Huston-Jost Funeral Home.
