Hazel Elizabeth (Darco) Garland, 91, of Coos Bay, formerly of Lebanon, died May 24, 2008.

A recitation of the Rosary followed by a Mass for her was held May 30 at St. Monica Catholic Church in Coos Bay with Father Angel Perez officiating. She was buried in Sunset Memorial Park in Coos Bay.

She was born Sept. 4, 1916, in Beaulieu, Minn., the daughter of Daniel and Annette (Terway) Darco.

She married Clayton Granum and they had two children, Walter and Connie. She worked in restaurants in Mahnomen, Minn. She and Mr. Granum later divorced.

She married John Joseph "Jack" Garland on Nov. 8, 1948, in Detroit Lakes, Minn.

When Mr. Garland died in 1976, she continued living in Coos Bay. In the late 1980s she became reacquainted with a childhood friend LeRoy Waltz, who became her companion. In 1997, they moved to the Willamette Valley.

She was a member of St. Monica Catholic Church in Coos Bay and St. Edwards Catholic Church in Lebanon.

She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law John and Pam Garland; son Jerald Garland; daughter and son-in-law Janice and Dave Morin; sister Alverta Bell; brother Lester Darco; brother and sister-in-law Everitt and Gloria Darco; daughter-in-law Joan Granum; grandchildren Dan Granum and his wife Debbie, Rebecca Granum, Debbie Budeslich, Rick Siewell and his wife Michelle, Joel Siewell and his wife Danita, Tami Lewis and her husband Rich, Tisha Fennell and her husband Chris, Jeff Morin and his wife Kory, Amanda Garland, Josh Garland, James and Sarah Garland; great-grandchildren Jeremy Harris, Todd and Nick Granum, Kyle and Alex Wechter, Reese Lewis, Taylor and JD Fennell, Trent and Maddy Morin; and great-great grandchildren Dakota and Riley Harris, and Taylee Granum.

Her parents Daniel and Annette Darco; husband John Garland; companion LeRoy Walz; children Walter Granum, Constance (Granum) Siewell and Judith Garland; siblings John, Jay and Kenneth Darco and Ruby (Darco) Lavoy; and grandson Ronald Granum died before she did.
