When a Lebanon man received a call from an unknown person on Nov. 16 saying that he should send money because his nephew was in an accident in Canada, he had a wise response.
He called police.
Lebanon Detective Sgt. Kevin Martinez said the man was advised the call was part of an ongoing scam and the information should be forwarded to the state attorney general’s office.
Martinez said people should beware of anything that requires giving money and of deals that sound too good to be true.
Typically, family members aren’t going to be calling and asking for money immediately, he said. If they do, ask questions and check with others in the family to verify where the person supposedly asking for money is.
Anyone who receives a suspicious request for money should call local police or the attorney general’s office, Martinez said.
