The Lebanon Pregnancy Alternatives Center has been rebuilt from the ground up after a fire last December destroyed the building.

"The only thing saved was the foundation," said Debbie Tracy, executive director.

The community will have the opportunity to tour the new building from 5 to 7 p.m. on July 21. The center is located at 136 W. Vine St. in Lebanon.

"We need to give a huge thank you to the community. They have been nothing but positive and supportive through this," Tracy said.

Through community help and business donations, the new 3,522 square-foot building was constructed.

Officials had purchased a new ultrasound machine about three months before the fire.

Although it wasn't torched, the smoke and dust damaged the machine.

"When it was opened up there was an inch of dust inside of it," Tracy explained.

The dust aged the new machine, which should have lasted at least 10 to 15 years, Tracy explained. Instead, the damage from the dust meant it may only last one or two.

The center is described on the group's website as a "nonprofit, volunteer-based, Christian organization dedicated to helping women through unplanned pregnancies."

Tracy described the center as a "medical clinic to serve women who want to find out if they are pregnant."

The center holds parenting classes and has a "resource room" where women may receive maternity and baby clothing, and other necessary equipment.

Additionally, there are car seats, cribs, and other large items women may earn through the center.

Three full-time and two part-time employees work at the center.

"This office is predominately run by volunteers," Tracy said.

Man faces federal arson charge

David Allen Rios, 30, a Lebanon transient, was arrested Nov. 21, 2008, for setting fire to the Pregnancy Alternatives Center building.

He is charged with arson in the U.S. District Court.

Rios has a hearing set for 1:30 p.m. on July 27, and his jury trial is scheduled for 9 a.m. on Aug. 5 in the Eugene U.S. District Court.

He also faces charges in Linn County Circuit Court.
