Two people were killed Friday after a car collided head-on with a motorcycle. The accident occurred on Highway 20 about a mile north of Spicer Drive near Lebanon.
At about 2:45 p.m., a 1999 Saturn 4-door driven by Michelle Irma Eldridge, 46, of Lebanon, was westbound on Highway 20 near milepost 9.
Eldridge began to pass a vehicle and collided head-on with an eastbound 2006 Harley Davidson motorcycle.
Both Eldridge and the operator of the motorcycle, Rick Dale Stephenson, 50, of Kelso, Wash., died at the scene.
Corine Wallace, who was one of the first on the scene, attempted to revive Stephenson, who was thrown from the motorcycle.
"I jumped out and tried to do CPR but it was just too late," said Wallace, who is CPR-trained.
"The lady in the car, she was alive for a while and then died later," Wallace said.
According to a release from the Oregon State Police, Eldridge had recently moved to the Lebanon area from Phoenix.
Stephenson was traveling with another motorcycle rider, who was following at a short distance behind and witnessed the crash. The second rider was not injured.
Mitch Johnson, of Sodaville, arrived shortly after the accident and ran to help Wallace.
"She was attempting to give him CPR and I took the pulse of the guy and he was dead," Johnson said. "If he didn't die on impact, he couldn't have lasted only 20 or 30 seconds more."
Johnson later helped by assisting with traffic control.
Eldridge was wearing safety restraints and Stephenson was wearing a helmet.
The highway was closed for 2.5 hours. Traffic was detoured by ODOT.
The investigation was conducted by troopers from the Oregon State Police Albany Area Command. Troopers on the scene were assisted by the Albany Police Department, Lebanon Fire Department and Oregon Department of Transportation.
