LEBANON — Real Deals on Home Décor opened up in downtown in July, and the shop offers decorations such as clocks and signs, as well as clothing, garden merchandise and more.
“We’ve kind of become a fixture for people,” owner Robert Winner said. “It’s not like shopping online. You get to come here and immerse yourself in the product.”
Real Deals has 80 stores throughout the country, and some of them have a lodge, coastal or wine country theme, but the Lebanon location has a barn chic feel because of the rural surroundings.
Merchandise is constantly changing at the shop and so are the displays, Winner said, which attracts repeat shoppers. “We’ve got orders coming in all the time, one or two every week, so the merchandise feels fresh all the time,” he added.
Lebanon doesn’t have a lot of women’s apparel options in town, and that’s drawing some customers. The store also has Lebanon and Oregon based T-shirts, hats, pillows and more.
And the shop is still experimenting with what merchandise will work, Winner said. For Christmas, he’ll have special dips, jellies and other products on the shelves, including men’s grooming items.
The retail shopping experience has always been in Winner’s blood. His parents owned grocery stores when he was a child, and he worked in retail for 40 years, spending 38 of those with Fred Meyer.
“I retired three years ago. So I got bored,” he said, with a chuckle.
Winner said his wife, Laura Winner, and their three daughters and a daughter-in-law help out with the various aspects of the business.
About a year ago, he walked into the Real Deals location in Eugene and fell in love. He contacted the Twin Falls, Idaho-based family-owned company, and soon enough, he was looking to open a store somewhere in between Salem and Eugene.
While he was searching for a location, he was impressed with Lebanon residents and the town itself.
Lebanon still has a small town feel, where residents will greet strangers on the street, Winner said, and he also heard about plenty of positive developments such as the medical college, hospital improvements and more.
“People in this town are really proud. ‘We’ve got a lot of stuff going on,’ they’d tell me,” Winner said.
And some residents are proud of the new store, as well. “I’ve been here a half dozen times. Happy to have this in our little town,” said Becky Hendricks of Lebanon.
She added that she loved the atmosphere, including the wall of clocks and the rapidly changing offerings.
The store also can hold housewarming parties, bridal showers and more, Winner said.
Real Deals on Home Décor – Lebanon, 641 S. Main St., is open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Saturday.
